ITS provides flight information display system to Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, Jakarta, Indonesia

Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, Jakarta, Indonesia

Working with its international airport automation partners, ITS is providing an airport-wide Real-time Display System (RDS) to the Soekarno-Hatta International Airport (CGK) in Jakarta, Indonesia. Managed by the state-owned PT Angkasa Pura II (APII), Soekarno-Hattan Int'l Airport currently operates two terminals, supports over 30 domestic and international carriers, and had 2005 passenger movements of 27M. Amsterdam Schiphol Airport is a joint venture partner with APII in the operation of the airport. CGK is the largest airport in Indonesia and is the main port for all Indonesian international travel. In addition to CGK, APII manages ten other airports within Indonesia.

Jakarta Airport passengers, visitors, and operational personnel will benefit from the new system (OpenRDS) because of its reliability and legibility. The system includes redundant auto-failover ITS' OpenFIDS servers, over 400 display devices, including 42" LCD flat panels and LED signs. At the heart of these displays are over 200 ITS Display Controllers (MMCD). Flight monitors provide large, crisp, characters and airline logos that can be viewed for longer distances and provide clear, direction for those checking in as well providing up-to-the-minute flight status for passengers and greeters.

The system was commissioned in August 2006 as further display locations are added and additional functionality are brought online. Integration with the Airport Operational Database (AODB) provides immediate updates to the RDS via a three-tier network architecture.

Los Angeles Terminal Two realizes savings with ITS-engineered Flight Display System Upgrade

Flight Display System at LAX

In 2005, ITS was awarded the contract to provide a replacement for the original Multi-User Flight Information Display System (MUFIDS) at Los Angeles International Airport, Terminal 2. Managing Terminal 2, LAX TWO Corporation (LAX TWO), selected ITS from a field of (4) other contenders.

ITS engineered the upgrade plan to permit the re-use of LAX TWO's existing flight information infrastructure, including monitor cabinets, electrical conduits and even specific cable runs. This ITS value engineering, ITS' forte, saved LAX2 over 35% in site costs and included an ITS-designed FIDS local area network. ITS made the transition plan seamless, performing all work without disrupting the operation of the existing MUFIDS. Although most of the monitor replacement was performed after hours, much of the planning and preparation was done during the day to support the MUFIDS transition.

In June of 2006, ITS completed the installation of the upgraded system which included ITS' auto fail-over OpenFIDS servers and the replacement all monitors and gate LED signs. Displays feature 16:9 & standard 4:3 monitors with graphic capability, controlled by ITS' multi-media display controller (MMCD). This upgrade offered the best value for LAX TWO, combining the benefits of wide-screen technology for each gate and the traditional 4:3 display to minimize millwork modifications, shelving and ceiling yokes that previously supported 23" B&W CRT monitors.

The leading benefit to LAX TWO is ITS' ability to remotely manage and support the system, using VPN networking with firewall protection.

ITS Completes Installation of parking garage Flight Display System at San Francisco Airport

Flight Display System at San Francisco Airport

Franklin Park, Illinois July 2006

Industrial Television Services, Inc. (ITS®) has successfully completed the installation of a Multi-Airline Flight Information Display System at the new San Francisco International Airport (SFO) long-term parking garage.

From project inception, Henry Thompson, Assistant Deputy Airport Director - SFO, focused on making the new long term parking facility easy to use: "The ITS Parking Garage Flight Display System provides real-time status of SFO flights and their corresponding Terminal stops together with public informational messaging - a valuable information service for our parking patrons. Feedback from garage patrons has been very positive."

Included among the garage's amenities are ITS real-time flight information displays (FIDS) located at the shuttle stop where patrons board busses to the airport terminals.

Using ITS' AIRS data service, the FIDS are composed using real time flight departure information collected from several sources, including airline flight systems and OAG Worldwide. AIRS receives, stores, formats, and distributes real time flight information to dynamic display systems, both on and off airport property.

"The AIRS service is very flexible", says ITS' VP Scott Triphahn, "AIRS ability to collect real time flight information and easily apply business rules pertinent to any display requirements sets AIRS apart from other providers."

Garage patrons benefit from being able to view the easy-to-read screens and instantly recognize the color-coded airport terminal from which their flight is departing.

ITS engineers determined that four 40" LCD displays, in portrait orientation, would support a 3-4 hour flight time window required during times of peak flight activity. ITS further recommended the inclusion of an additional LCD to maintain the 3-4 hour flight time window during periods of flight delays or irregular operations.

SFO saw an opportunity to promote SFO amenities as well as provide a means to post special emergency messages. This opportunity was realized by adding a sixth display and using ITS AIRS Presentation Manager software, providing the airport a simple but effective means of instantly communicating with the public.

The new display system including the mechanical mounting structure and all-weather display enclosures was designed, engineered, fabricated, and installed by ITS. Special seismic engineering was required to conform to local construction ordinances. ITS on-site technicians support the system on an ongoing basis.

ITS is a privately held company headquartered in Chicago, IL. Specializing in the collection, processing, distribution and display of real time information. ITS has been "Showing the Way" since 1960.
